For me, Oakhella was a beautiful dose of medicine. While I was there, I was most present to Oakland’s embodiment of joy, inclusion, style, creativity, kindness, vision and innovation. Even as the city continues to change, there is no denying the commitment to preserve the color of Oakland, meant both literally and metaphorically. Oakhella is a felt celebration of life, it is what is possible when we all come together and remember the essence of who we are, both individually and as a collective. May we continue to see ourselves in each other, share our hearts and our resources so we can build each other up and remind each other of our greatness. Oakhella does a great job of doing just that!
